Follow Me (1)

Although Jesus was hated by many during His three years of public teaching in the land of Israel, there were those who followed Him. At one time we discover that He appointed seventy disciples to go out in pairs to prepare the way in various cities that He was about to visit, Luke chapter 10 verses 1-2. He knew that there was much work to be done but those prepared to do it were few. He asked them to pray to God and ask for more workers to be sent out. The scenario remains the same today. There is much work still to be done for God and those of us, who are Christians, ought to be praying constantly to Him for more workers!

At the outset of His three-year journey throughout Israel, Jesus found two fishermen, Simon and Andrew, casting a net into the sea and He said to them, ‘FOLLOW ME, and I will make you become fishers of men’. Their response was impressive: ‘They IMMEDIATELY LEFT their nets and FOLLOWED HIM’, Mark chapter 1 verse 17-18. The Lord Jesus is still calling to each one of us, ‘FOLLOW ME!’ and He longs for the same immediate and obedient response. Are we prepared to leave all and follow Him?

We hear the voices of many today, calling others to follow them. The Bible tells us about Theudas and Judas, who did so. Both perished and their followers were scattered, Acts chapter 5 verses 36-37. Seeking the pre-eminence is foolhardy and doomed to failure. There is only One who has the right to call us to FOLLOW HIM, i.e. Jesus Christ! He will never be rejected by God and His followers will never be scattered. He said: ‘My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand’, John chapter 10 verse 27.

FOLLOW Jesus Christ and you will be secure for eternity!
