Another word prevalent in these times, meaning ‘a strict isolation imposed to prevent the spread of disease’. Thankfully, few of us have ever had to endure such conditions.
In Bible-times like today, leprosy was a killer disease without a cure, and anyone suffering the disease had to be totally isolated. It would be a life away from family and friends, outside of the community, abandoned and basically left to painfully suffer and die. Such a leper once came to Jesus ‘imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.’ Mark chapter 1 verses 40-42.
Love a leper? Yes, Jesus did. He loves and cares for us just the same.
